The South Australian Chamber of Mines & Energy (SACOME) first approached CoLLECT in 2021 to collaborate with them on the design strategy and layout of their 2022 Resources Sector Pre Election Priorities document. This was a watershed moment for their branding as they had an established brand identity, however the full brand name and the acronym were not created to appear together.

In terms of brand recognition, our research showed that despite the importance of the not-for-profit organisation to the South Australian resources sector, it was not widely known what SACOME was. We recognised this as the first problem we needed to solve and refreshed the brand identity for maximum clarity.

The client had previously published their annual Policy Priorities documents as digital files that were distributed via email or EDM to government, members and other stakeholders. Again recognising this as a missed opportunity to provide the brand with a physical presence to escalate SACOME’s advocacy – particularly ahead of a State Election, we recommended we print the Priorities as a premium publication. Our strategy paid off. After several years of advocating for funding to finalise the business case of the Northern Water Project, this major state economic development initiative was awarded $15 million in State and Commonwealth funding with bipartisan support.

From that point CoLLECT managed the design and communications strategy for all of SACOME’s branding, which included annual reports, annual priorities publication, factsheets, invitations, banners, campaigns and from 2024 also included content development and editing of social media and all member communications.

This also involved the annual development of a branding device that would support the existing identity and provide a creative theme for the year. Inspired by the established SACOME colour palette, the themes provided coherence and a sophisticated look and feel to a sector that is generally associated with dark, underground tunnels, hard hats and high visibility safety gear. The resources sector is so much more than that… it provides the very foundation of our modern lifestyle. Each piece of collateral we developed was created with the purpose of not only elevating the perception of the SACOME brand, but the South Australian resources sector as a whole.
